Fined Rs 2 lakh for charging Rs 10 extra for ice-cream

The district forum has imposed a fine of Rs 2 lakh for unfair trade practice, besides asking it to compensate the customer.

Sub-inspector Bhaskar Jadhav lodged a complaint after Shagun Veg Restaurant (Mumbai based) that the printed price on the family pack ice cream was 165/INR and he was charged 175/INR instead in 2014. The reason for the extra charged Rs. 10 was for the cost incurred to store it, said by the defendant.

Ordering the Sagun Veg Restaurant to pay Rs. 2 lakh fine, the forum said, In order to curb such unscrupulous trade practices by restaurants and shops and for the benefit of customers, the principle of fear of deterrence must be addressed.

Besides the Rs 2 lakh fine, the restaurant has also been asked to compensate the customer.
