ALL INDIA LAW ENTRANCE TEST (AILET)

The ALL INDIA LAW ENTRANCE TEST (AILET) in an Entrance Examination which is conducted by the National Law University, Delhi every year for admissions in Undergraduate (UG)- BA.LL.B.(Hons.), Postgraduate (PG)- LL.M. Programme and Doctorate- Ph.D. courses. The examination is conducted in offline mode in various test centers in various cities across India and the admission to the candidates is given on the Cut-off basis of marks secured by the candidate.

Eligibility Criteria for the Examination:

For Admissions in Undergraduate (UG)- BA.LL.B.(Hons.) programme are as follows:

  • The candidate should have passed the Higher Secondary School Examination (10+2) or an equivalent examination securing in the aggregate not less than 50% of the total marks.
  • Those candidates who are appearing/ awaiting results of the qualifying examination can also apply and appear in the Entrance Test.

For Admissions in Postgraduate (PG)- LL.M. Programme are as follows:

  • The candidate should have passed the LL.B. or an equivalent degree from a recognised University with not less than 55% marks on aggregate (50% in case of reserved categories, i.e. SC/ST/Persons with Disability).
  • Those who are appearing/awaiting results of the qualifying examination can also apply and appear in the Entrance Test. However, the eligibility by such candidates shall have to be obtained by the cut-off date which will be notified along with the Notification of Entrance Test result.

For Admissions in Doctorate- Ph.D. are as follows:

  • The candidate should have a Master’s Degree in Law or a professional degree declared equivalent to the Master’s degree in Law.
  • The candidate must have secured at least 55% marks in the qualifying degree examination. However, if belonging to SC/ ST categories then the qualifying marks are 50%.
  • Those who have completed a degree in law and a Ph.D. in any discipline equivalent to it.
  • Those Candidates who have worked as a State High Court Judge in India for at least three years or Judge at the Supreme Court of India.

Syllabus for the Examination:

Syllabus for Undergraduate (UG)- BA.LL.B.(Hons.) program are as follows:

  • English Language.
  • General Knowledge.
  • Legal Aptitude.
  • Reasoning.
  • Elementary Mathematics.

Syllabus for Postgraduate (PG)- LL.M. Programme is as follows:

  • Criminal Law
  • Constitutional Law
  • Law of Contract
  • Jurisprudence
  • Law of Tort
  • International Law

Syllabus for Doctorate- Ph.D. are as follows:

  •  50%- Research Methodology

And the remaining 50% shall be from different areas of law i.e. all major subject of law like:

  • Criminal Law
  • Constitutional Law
  • Law of Contract
  • Jurisprudence
  • Law of Tort
  • Corporate Law
  • International Law.

How to Apply for the Examination?

To apply for this Examination the candidate has to fill out the Application Form which is available only on the official website of NLU Delhi i.e. www.nludelhi.ac.in to access the application form.

The stepwise process to register for the Examination is as follows:

  • STEP-1: Visit the Admissions Page of the official website through the link provided here- https://nludelhi.ac.in/ailet2020.aspx
  • STEP-2: Click on the “Online Application Form”.
  • STEP-3: Create a New Account by clicking on “Create New Account”.
  • STEP-4: Login to your account and choose your application form and click on “Apply Button”.
  • STEP-5: Fill all the details on the form for each of the sections.
  • STEP-6: Click “Submit” for saving all details and proceeding back to the Application Locker for making payment of the application form.

  • Mock Tests should be given regularly by the aspirants to keep a check on the current preparation and also to boost up your speed.
  • Candidates must read good Newspapers, Articles, Blogs, etc. to increase the knowledge about Current Affairs and also to improve your language.
  • Good reference books like Word Power Made Easy, Quantitative Aptitude for Competitive Examinations by RS Agarwal, Lucent’s General Knowledge, Protiyogita Darpan, Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning by RS Agarwal must be referred for a healthy preparation.
  • Making and following a good Time Table throughout the preparation will eventually help to cover all the subjects on time.
  • Practice Daily all the subjects to keep-in-touch with the already prepared subjects.
