On August 14, 2020, the Supreme Court of India held Activist-Lawyer Prashant Bhushan liable for contempt of court and Attorney General K.K. Venugopal advised Prashant Bhushan to seek apology from the court. Earlier Mr. Bhushan. made the tweet on Chief Justice Bobde, after he posted a picture on a bike which belonged to a BJP leader. Bhusan’s second tweet was regarding ‘destruction of democracy’
The Supreme Court on 31st August 2020 imposed a fine of Rs.1 as his discipline within the criminal disdain case and gave a deadline of 15 September 2020 to deposit the fine. If Bhushan fails to pay the fine he will be imprisoned for 3 months and also will be debarred from his law practice for 3 years. Mr. Bhushan respectfully admitted to paying the fine to the court.
